A Power Factor Improvement (PFI) Plant is an electrical system that uses capacitor banks and control equipment to improve power factor, reduce energy losses, and optimize electrical system efficiency.
A Power Factor Improvement (PFI) Plant is an automatic power correction system installed in electrical distribution networks to compensate for reactive power generated by inductive loads such as motors, transformers, compressors, HVAC systems, and industrial machinery.
The PFI panel uses capacitor banks, contactors, and an automatic power factor controller (APFC) to maintain the desired power factor level by automatically switching capacitor stages ON/OFF according to the load demand. Improving power factor reduces unnecessary current flow, lowers electrical losses, increases system capacity, and helps avoid utility penalties for poor power factor.
PFI plants are widely used in factories, commercial buildings, shopping malls, hospitals, high-rise buildings, and industrial facilities with heavy electrical loads.
